This week-long course, in the idyllic setting of Eagle Rock School nestled in the Rocky Mountains,
focused on tabla instruction, listening, imagination, instrument building,
and greater awareness of the cultural context of creativity. We listened to daily ragas,
took listening walks, performed conductions (conducted improvisations), imagined and built
instruments over the course of 4 days, learned about the traditions of tabla
and studied the music of such icons as Ustad Ali Akbar Khan,
Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Bjork.
